Summary

Claude Code’s computer use feature can drive desktop apps (not just the browser), so AI can perform repetitive workflows in software like Final Cut Pro, QuickBooks, or Lightroom. The biggest payoff is for knowledge workers whose daily tasks live in desktop apps rather than web tools. Most people aren’t using it for these non-coding workflows yet.

Key Insight

  • Desktop apps are the unlock, not browser tasks. Computer use lets Claude operate any native app on the machine.
  • Concrete app examples given:
    • Final Cut Pro - automate a fixed video-editing/clipping workflow
    • QuickBooks / finance apps - automate repeated accounting tasks
    • Lightroom - apply the same edit set across a batch of photos
    • iOS Simulator - swipe, type, and navigate an iPhone simulator for mobile app testing
  • Meta trick: open Claude Code with computer use inside an IDE, then have it launch and control a second Claude Code session - one agent driving another.
  • Framed as underused: the value is in mapping it onto existing repeatable workflows, not novel tasks.
